Downsizing

I missed the last two weeks of newsletters which really bothers me.

I’d made it through the entire year without missing a week, so breaking that streak is frustrating. However, life has a way of rearranging our priorities.

My girlfriend and I are in the middle of downsizing. We’ve moved into a smaller home and are now getting the old (way too big) house ready to sell. Somewhere along the way, I seriously underestimated how much work that would involve.

A person can accumulate an astonishing amount of stuff over the years. Who knew? Even more astonishing is how much of it we must handle, sort, move, donate, or throw away before we’re finished.

Then there’s the emotional side of downsizing. It’s hard to part with things that carry memories, especially items that belonged to family members and friends who are no longer with us. Something that looks like clutter to someone else might hold a lifetime of memories for us. Deciding what stays and what goes isn’t always easy.

We’re making progress, but the process has been more exhausting than I expected. Between moving, cleaning, fixing things, and trying to keep up with my day job, my normal schedule has taken a hit. I’m still getting up every morning to write, but the newsletter has unfortunately fallen behind.

So, if you’ve noticed my absence these past couple of weeks, that’s where I’ve been. I’m still here, still writing, and looking forward to getting back into my usual routine.

Thanks for hanging in there with me. I truly appreciate it.

More to come next week.
