Father's Day

Happy Father’s Day 2025!

Thought I’d share something cute with you today.

In 2018, we picked out our Vizsla puppy, but we couldn’t bring her home right away. We had to wait a few weeks before she could join our family.

During that time, a couple of things happened.

First, we picked a name. Actually, the Boy did. He saw a bouquet that I’d purchased for my girlfriend and asked, “How about Rose?”

That’s perfect, we agreed.

The second thing that happened before Rose came to live with our family was Father’s Day. That’s when the Boy gave me one of the coolest Father’s Day presents ever. Although perhaps he gave the present to Rose.

Or should I say Rows?

That’s right. The Boy had a red bowl with Rose misspelled Rows. I howled with delight.

You see, he was a huge fan of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books by Jeff Kinney. Because of that, we’d watched the movies as a family (there were four of them by then).

If you haven’t seen these movies yet, do so. They are a blast. So much so that I read a handful of the earlier books and snickered, chuckled, and laughed along with the exploits of the protagonist, Greg Heffley.

In the third movie, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, Greg’s older brother, Rodrick, makes a food bowl for their dog, Sweetie. Unfortunately, Rodrick misspelled Sweetie’s name as Sweaty, then argued with his dad about it. It was a hilarious scene.

Fast forward to 2018 Father’s Day and the Rows Bowl. The Boy knocked it out of the park with that gift.

Every time I see the Rows bowl, it reminds me of that period when he was young and loved those silly books. It reminds me of when we watched those movies together as a family. It also reminds me of when Rose the Office Dog was a puppy.

All good stuff and times that went by too fast.
