Going Down the Rabbit Hole with Eddie Money
I went down a musical rabbit hole this week with Eddie Money.
He’s the guy behind hits like “Two Tickets to Paradise,” “Baby Hold On,” “Take Me Home Tonight,” and “Shakin’.” Eddie was all over the radio when I was growing up, but beyond his hits I never dove deeper into his music.
I was more into by bands like Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Cinderella, and Huey Lewis & the News. Okay, Huey is a bit of a wild card in my musical choices, but their songs were always great and the lyrics were easy to understand.
Anyway, I happened to hear “Shakin’” on the radio this week. It starts off with the lyrics:
Roseanna’s daddy had a car she loved to drive
Stole the keys one night and took me for a ride
Unfortunately, my trip to the store ended before the song, but I couldn’t get it out of my head. So I went to Spotify (maybe my favorite app) and listened to it in its entirety. Then I listened to the rest of the album (No Control, 1982) and loved it! I listened to the full album probably three times in a row.
Afterward, I jumped into Eddie’s eponymous 1977 album which contained “Two Tickets to Paradise” and “Baby Hold On.” It was pretty good but not as much fun as No Control. I jumped forward to Eddie’s 1986 album, Can’t Hold Back, which featured maybe his biggest hit, “Take Me Home Tonight.”
I’m still down this rabbit hole as he’s got many other albums. It’s been a fun trip, especially hearing 1980s songs I never listened to before.
Have you ever gone down a rabbit hole like this? Maybe with a musician, an author, or an actor? If so, what did you discover? I’d love to hear about it.
